Dick Skilton
I am a retired primary headteacher who has now the time to devote time painting. He has developed a technique of using pencil, pen and watercolour over many years and enjoys painting landscape, towns and churches. I live in Shropshire and enjoy capturing views from surrounding counties and into parts of Wales.I started painting as a teenager in Wales and studied art in Bangor Normal College in the late sixties. Work , children and other things became more important thinking " I will paint again when Ihave enough time".Years later I hurt my leg playing tennis and while on holiday I saw a watercolour painter and thought, while I am unable to walk very much,I can do that.
I bought all the equipment but ... I was very disappointed to discover that I was not as good as I thought. I drew every day for six months and gradually regained the skills I had in the past and with hard work, exceeded them. I wes interesting to find that the work I was doing was very much based on the style I had developed as a teenage but but was much better and what is even more interesting is that now over 60, I feel I am still learning a great deal and making progress.
I have held several exhibitions but now I prefere not to take a lower profile and work mainly by word of mouth.
