Ludlow castle and town with Clee hill in the background, from Whitcliffe common Shropshire

Dick Skilton

I am a retired primary headteacher who has now the time to devote time painting. He has developed a technique of using pencil, pen and watercolour over many years and enjoys painting landscape, towns and churches. I live in Shropshire and enjoy capturing views from surrounding counties and into parts of Wales.
I started painting as a teenager in Wales and studied art in Bangor Normal College in the late sixties. Work , children and other things became more important thinking " I will paint again when i have enough thime".Years later I hurt my leg playing tennis and while on holiday I saw a watercolour painter and thought, while I am unable to walk very much,I can do that.
I bought all the equipment but ... I was very disappointed to discover that I was not as good as I thought. I drew every day for six months and gradually regained the skills I had in the past and with hard work, exceeded them. I wes interesting to find that the work I was doing was very much based on the style I had developed as a teenage but but was much better and what is even more interesting is that now as I approach 60! I feel I am still learning a great deal and making progress.
I have held several exhibitions but now I prefere not to take a lower profile and work mainly by word of mouth.
Remember it is good to tell an artist when you like their work but it shows even greater respect for their work to pay for it and display it on your wall.
Thank you to all of you who have pictures of mine.
